Cedar Grove, Apple Hill RealCedar Grove / Apple Hill
Cedar Grove is most likely named for the planting of a grove of cedars in the vicinity during the 19th century. Today, however, the community is better known for another form of planting – apple trees. Cedar Grove is home to Apple Hill, a destination offering fresh produce and old-fashioned country fun. In 1964, sixteen farmers banded together to form the Apple Hill Growers Association. Today, the Apple Hill Growers Association has grown from sixteen original ranchers to over 55 ranchers, including Christmas tree growers and wineries, vineyards, a micro brewery and a spa. Apple Hill markets what it calls “agricultural tourism.” It is considered to be the first cooperative regional farm and government marketing effort in the State of California. In the harvest season, usually September and October of each year, thousands flock to the many fruit farms to sample the delights and enjoy the majestic ridgetop views. |
